Prevention & Rehabiitation (P.U.R.)
Our Centre for Prevention and Rehabilitation, or P.U.R. for short, sees to it that people of all ages remain fit and healthy as they grow older.
Physical exercise, a balanced diet, mental stimulation and social interaction are the main pillars on which our courses at the Evangelischen Krankenhaus Bergisch Gladbach are founded. It doesn't matter whether or how you are connected to the EVK – our courses are open to all residents of Bergisch Gladbach and the surrounding area.
Our programme of prevention and rehabilitation courses and seminars is divided into the following areas:
- Pregnancy and birth
- Children and young families
- Fitness and prevention
- Relaxation and stress management
Please contact your health insurance provider prior to enrolling to find out how much they will subsidise the course you plan to attend.

Outpatient Rehabilitation
Our Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Sport Department offers a comprehensive programme of activities for all illnesses to restore you to full health and enable you to pursue an active, self-determined life as free as possible from complaints and worries.
Our basic prescription for reducing your symptoms is: to restore and maintain your capacity to go about your daily life through movement. With exercises and activities at a level that take into account your individual capabilities.
Our rehabilitation measures and training programme, which includes dietary advice, relaxation exercises and stress management, are designed for this purpose.
All of our exercise programmes and counselling services are run by specially qualified sports instructors/therapists/scientists, masseuses, psychologists, physicians and nutritionists.

Counselling
Our counsellor is there to lend a sympathetic ear, help you through difficult times and provide you with support.
We can either visit you in your room or you can come and talk to us at a church service or in our counselling office. It's irrelevant which Christian denomination or other religion you belong to, or if you aren't part of any religious community at all. We're there for you!
The door of our counselling office is open to anyone wanting to chat or in need of support: you, your relatives and even our colleagues here at the EVK.
For those looking for some time to themselves, our chapel provides an opportunity for contemplation – to pray, meditate, lay a stone at the "Wailing Wall" or "just because".

Social Work and Social Counselling
Our Social Work Unit provides you and your relatives with assistance in coping with the challenges and problems caused by your illness or disability.
As part of our rehabilitation counselling service, we help you deal with all the formalities relating to the health insurer, doctors and your discharge or transfer to a rehab clinic.
During social counselling, we explain the varied and complex range of support services available to you and your statutory entitlements.
And when making the transition to nursing care, we:
- find outpatient carers,
- offer advice on care equipment,
- procure care equipment,
- clarify what you're entitled to under the nursing care insurance,
- apply for a nursing care level, and
- support you with making institutional or hospice care arrangements

Hospice
Our goal is to provide people at the end of their lives not only quality of life, but the best possible relief from pain and other physical and mental symptoms. Every guest is respected as a unique individual and offered psychological and spiritual support – irrespective of their religious affiliation.
Each of the eight furnished guest rooms has its own bathroom, Internet access and a TV. All rooms have access to a terrace belonging to the room. The large communal kitchen and winter garden offer residents the opportunity to socialise – if they so desire
A team of competent, specialist carers, well trained volunteers and social workers, as well as registered palliative care doctors ensure that guests receive the best possible medical treatment and are looked after with great care.
As residents do not have to contribute to the costs themselves, hospice admittance is not dependent on their financial situation.
